About this month’s session:

Adult Discussion Group –  – Topic: Rosemary Moore’s The light in their Consciences: Early Quakers in Britain, 1646- 1666

We will be returning to our study and discussion of the first generation of Quakerism based on our readings of Rosemary Moore’s The light in their Consciences: Early Quakers in Britain, 1646- 1666. The subject for March will be chapter two of the book “The Quaker Explosion” in which the early Quaker movement from being a relatively small regional sect at the beginning of 1652 spread throughout most parts of England becoming by 1656 the largest new religious sect in the nation, inspiring fear of it potential for radical change in the more privileged sectors of English society.

The chapter deals with a whole range of subjects such as the role of its key leaders, persons such as George Fox, Margeret Fell, James Naylor and important others: the characteristics of the early Quaker missions, its developing organizational structure, and other important aspects of the movement. This was the time period in which Quakerism was the fastest growing religion in the world.

Please feel free to join us if the history of early Quakerism is of interest to you. A copy of the book can be provided to newcomers to the group.
