About this month’s session:
On Sunday, January 26 at 2-3 pm, the Adult Education Discussion group will again be meeting via Zoom to continue its study of the first generation of Quakerism via its readings from The Light of Their Consciences: Early Quakers in Brittain, 1646 – 1666 by Rosemary Moore. This month’s reading “Putting Experience into Words” concerns the earliest efforts by Quakers to communicate their message about the Quaker experience of God.
Thus, some of the earliest expressions of Quaker faith which stressed an experiential sense of unity with Christ and thus to God via filial terms of sonship or of Christ dwelling within, and the Quaker use of terms such as “the light,” “the light of Christ” or “the light within you” are discussed. Within this narrative the author deals with the various controversies that developed between Quakers and their opponents over the unorthodox use these terms by early Quakers.
If you have an interest in joining these discussions and want more info, then contact Brittany at outreachinreach@gmail.com and we will be able to get the reading material to you.
