About this month’s session:

On Sunday June 22: 2-3 pm, online Adult Discussion Group.

This month the adult discussion group will be reading the New York Times 2017 bestseller On Tyranny: Twenty Lessons from the Twentieth Century by noted historian Timothy Synder. At the meeting we will be discussing the book. Within it, Mr. Timothy, who is the author of several important historical works covering the 20th century history of Ukraine, the Soviet Union and the rise of Fascist regimes argues that we can learn from history and that he believes that the United States and democracy across many areas of the world is clearly now under threat from authoritarian force from within. In chapters with titles such as “Do not obey in advance,” “Defend institutions,” and “Listen to dangerous words,” Mr. Snyder gives sound moral, ethical, political advice that individual citizens, institutions such as universities and political organizations can use to help roll back the tide of authoritarianism that now threatens civilization.

What is the Adult Education Discussion Group?

The Adult Discussion Group meets each month (except August) on the fourth Sunday at 2 p.m.  The participants meet to select the topics at the start of each year and they represent a wide range of concerns and interests. 

The age range of the attenders is wide, from students to seniors.  At present, the meetings are entirely on Zoom. No registration or RSVP required. No Quaker experience necessary.
