Mending the Sacred Hoop
A Talk by Kevin Abourezk (Sicangu Lakota)
Wednesday, September 3rd, 8-9:30pm ET; 7-8:30pm CT; 6-7:30pm MT; 5-6:30pm PT
Kevin Abourezk, an award-winning Sicangu Lakota journalist, has spent his career documenting the lives, accomplishments and tragedies of Native American people. He will talk about his efforts to establish a Native American ecovillage near Lincoln, Nebraska, that would provide space for ceremonies and cultural activities, gardens, and housing for an urban Native population. It would serve as a means of repairing the sacred hoop of Indigenous people that was broken by centuries of genocide and forced assimilation by allowing them to live and pray the way they want on lands of their own.
